What if the Library does not have a copy of my textbook?

Answer

1. Please be sure you have checked the catalog first.  Instructions on how to find textbooks through the Library Catalog.

2. If the title does not appear, the Library likely does not have it.  Contact us via Chat for us to double check.

3.  Chances are your instructor never placed a copy on reserve.  Please be sure to ask your instructor to donate a copy to the Library.

4.  For E-books, unless it's an OER book, in most cases the Library does not have an electronic copy.  In a rare instance it does, you usually can find it in the Ebook Collection (EBSCOhost).  Sometimes all copies may be in use at that time, which if so, you will need to wait at least an hour to view that copy (please be sure to clean out your cookies, etc. from your browser before trying again).  If you do not see the title directly listed in the search results, then no, the title is not available in the Ebook Collection.  Other places to check include Overdrive and Gale.

5.  If it's an OER book and it does not appear in the catalog, please contact the Library.  We will try to find the book for you and add it to the Catalog/OneSearch.

6.  If you have a book code from your instructor but do not know where to go, please go to I have a code to an electronic textbook.  Where do I go to find it?

7.  Meanwhile our campus bookstore very likely has the title available for purchase and sometimes for rent (at a cost).  Go to: https://chabotcollege.bncollege.com/ and enter your book title on the top right.  You can also check Amazon to see if you can get a copy (sometimes one may be available for Kindle at a cost for either purchase or rent).
