Where is My Textbook? (or does the Library have a Copy of My Textbook)?

If the Library has a copy of your textbook, it is available through Course Reserves.  Your instructor needs to submit a physical copy of the textbook for it to be available via Reserves.  Any book that is in Course Reserves is usually available only for a two hour checkout and needs to stay in the Library during that checkout.

To see if a copy of your textbook is available, please go to the Library home page: https://libraryguides.chabotcollege.edu/home .

Scroll down to the searchbox and click on the Textbooks tab.  Then enter your search term (name of your textbook or the last name of your instructor).Textbook searching Example

If a copy is in our collection, it should appear in the results:

If multiple results appear, click on the item that matches to see status of the copy of the textbook (in most cases, there will be only one.  This one is unique as we have multiple copies of this one):

(NOTE: Some OER textbooks may not be in the catalog at this time, and if your instructor did not provide a link to that one, please contact the Library to see if we can find that link for you and provide it to you).

In most cases, you cannot place a hold on a course reserve (unless the options allow you to).  You need to come onto campus and ask for the book at the checkout desk.  If it is currently checked out within the next two hours, then you can ask the staff member to make sure a hold is placed, although sometimes students may return that book a bit late.

With the exception of OER textbooks, the Library in most cases, does not have access to any electronic copies of textbooks.  Sometimes, copies may be available in the Ebook Collection (EBSCOhost) but those are rare (usually your instructor would tell you so, and provide a link in your Canvas course.  Please be sure to ask your instructor for the link and its whereabouts if you cannot find it).
